Despite Gaza truce, Palestinian militants still building rockets

GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Nearly two months after Israel entered into a truce with Hamas in Gaza, one militant group wants to show it is building longer-range rockets that Israel said would violate the cease-fire.

In a rare public relations display, spread over two days and intended to be viewed by Israel and the rest of the world, the armed wing of the Popular Resistance Committees last week showed off its training techniques and a rocket factory to journalists.

The PRC said the rockets it displayed recently are but a drop in an ocean of surprises in store for Israel should it attempt to reoccupy Gaza, from which it withdrew in 2005.

The militants showed off what they said was a new rocket, called the Nasser-4, which can travel 16 miles (25 kilometers), or double the range of the existing Nasser-3. If true, larger Israeli cities such as Ashkelon -- with a population of about 120,000 -- and Ashdod -- home to about 200,000 -- would be under greater threat of attack...

Deadly bomb blast hits southern Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand (CNN) -- A car bomb exploded in southern Thailand, killing a local journalist and wounding 17 others, a police official told CNN.

The bomb detonated around 9:10 p.m. (10:10 a.m. ET) moments after an initial explosion that drew in a crowd of local officials and journalists, according to the police chief of Narathiwat province. The attack took place in the Sugaigolok district of Narathiwat, a predominantly Muslim province located along the Thailand-Malaysia border.

The car bomb killed a newspaper reporter on the scene, the police chief said.

It is unclear who planted the explosive devices in Narathiwat, one of three Muslim provinces in southern Thailand -- a predominantly Buddhist country.

Two people were killed in mid-March when two car bombs struck targets in the other Muslim provinces, Yala and Pattani.

Car bombings, while a relatively rare tactic, are becoming a more frequent tool of radical Muslims waging a years-long insurgency in southern Thailand, authorities say.

(CNN) -- An alleged terrorist leader suspected of plotting the bombing of a Philippine superferry more than four years ago, killing at least 116 people, has arrived in Manila after his arrest in Bahrain, a Philippine justice official said Saturday.

Authorities in Bahrain arrested Ruben Pestano Lavilla Jr. last month, said Ricardo Blancaflor, undersecretary at the Department of Justice. Lavilla was deported Saturday to Manila, where police arrested him and briefly paraded him in front of local media crews before locking him inside police headquarters, Blancaflor said.

Lavilla is one of the top ideologues in the Rajah Solaiman Movement, a group of former Christians who converted to Islam and claim affiliation with the al Qaeda-linked regional terrorist groups Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayyaf, Blancaflor said...

I used to read thereligionofpeace.com every day, but it just got far too depressing and infuriating. I used to think that if something could be conclusively proven, in both theory and practice, to be destructive and evil, that people would realize this and act against it. I never thought that people would bend over backwards to accomodate that evil. Sadly I was wrong.

Instead our government fights endlessly over gay marriage, when it does anything at all. I hate the patronizing way the West treats its own citizens, the constant insistance that "we're all the same" which is accompanied (and thus negated) by different standards for each religious, and cultural group. I'm sick of the constant indoctrination in our schools and in our media, which has given us a generation of people who are better informed than any before but who have no capacity of choice to do anything with the information which Yah has been so graceful to give them. I hate the pure idiocy of multiculturalism, an idiocy that can probably be best reduced to a political divide-and-conquer. I hate that we can see the problem right in front of our faces but no one with the power to stop the coming disaster is even willing to talk about it.

Really, I'm unhappy about the fact that our culture, our homelands, and the nation in which I was born all seem to be on the verge of going up in flames, but I don't think there's anything more we can do about it. It's truly a great thing that we have the promise of a better land and nation to come...

Australia: 6 found guilty of terrorism charges

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- A jury has found six Muslim men guilty of being members of a terrorist group that allegedly plotted to launch an attack in Australia.

Four other men were found innocent on charges of being members of a terrorist group, and the jury was still deliberating Monday on the same charge for two other suspects.

The men are involved in Australia's largest trial against alleged terrorists. Prosecutors alleged they intended to undertake "violent jihad" in Australia, discussed killing the prime minister, and identified railway stations and sports fields as possible targets.

The men found guilty are yet to be sentenced. They face life terms in prison.

Spain to extradite convicted train bomber

From CNN Madrid Bureau Chief Al Goodman

MADRID, Spain (CNN) -- A Spanish court on Tuesday agreed to temporarily extradite a man convicted in the 2004 Madrid train bombings to Morocco, where he faces charges in connection with the Casablanca bombings in 2003, a court spokeswoman told CNN.

The convict, Moroccan-born Hassan el Haski, 45, is serving a 15-year sentence in Spain for leadership in a terrorist group, in connection with the Madrid train bombings in 2004 that killed 191 people.

The National Court on Tuesday authorized his extradition, for six months, to Morocco, where authorities have linked him to the Casablanca bombings in May 2003 that killed 33 bystanders and 12 suicide bombers.

The court said Haski could be held longer in Morocco, if his trial there takes more than six months, according to a copy of the three-page ruling, viewed by CNN.

Haski is among 18 people serving sentences for the Madrid train bombings, including 14 Islamic militants and four Spaniards.

The Spaniards were convicted for trafficking in explosives that ended up being used in the attacks.

The train bombing trial was held last year. Spain's Supreme Court ruled last July on numerous appeals to the initial sentencing by the National Court, which handles cases of terrorism.

New Delhi flower market blast kills boy

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- A young boy was killed and 17 people hurt when a bomb exploded in south New Delhi Saturday, an Indian police spokesman said.

The bomb, which was thrown by two bikers, exploded when a child picked it up, New Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said. The boy was about 10 years old, he said.

A man and his wife saw the men drop the explosives. The boy called to them that they had left something behind, but they ignored him, according to Delhi's deputy police commissioner, H.G.S. Dhaliwal.

The bikers who dropped the explosives were between 20 and 25 years of age, Bhagat said. Police said they were wearing helmets.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the explosion in New Delhi's Mehrauli area.

Nine of the injured were in critical condition, said Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi of Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences, which is treating those wounded in the blast.

Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told The Associated Press that officers were investigating the nature of explosives.

The blast occurred two weeks after a series of bomb explosions struck a park and crowded shopping areas in the capital, killing 21 people and wounding about 100 others.

A group calling itself the Indian Mujahideen claimed responsibility for that attack.

Police believe the group is a front for the Students' Islamic Movement of India, which was banned in 2001.

Yemeni sheik's terror conviction thrown out

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A New York appeals court Thursday overturned terrorism convictions for a Yemeni cleric and his personal assistant, saying they did not receive a fair trial.

Sheik Mohammed Ali al-Moayad and Mohammed Mohsen Zayed, were sentenced in 2005 to 75 and 45 years in prison, respectively, after being convicted of conspiring to provide material support and resources to foreign terrorist organizations. They now can have new trials under a different judge.

The lawyer for al-Moayad, Robert Boyle, said, "I'm extremely gratified at the court's decision. I believe it is legally and factually correct. I hope my client, who is elderly and not in good health, will be given the opportunity to return to his family in Yemen."..

Within Shi'ite Islamic tradition, the concept of Taqiyya (تقية - 'fear, guard against') refers to a dispensation allowing believers to conceal their faith when under threat, persecution or compulsion.

The word "al-Taqiyya" literally means: "Concealing or disguising one's beliefs, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions, and/or strategies at a time of imminent danger, whether now or later in time, to save oneself from physical and/or mental injury." A one-word translation would be "dissimulation."
