Does anyone have a great understanding of what 1 Corinthians 14 is saying concerning praying in tongues to God and how that affects the person who is praying? It says that the person "edifies" themself and the meaning after looking at some lexicons is "building" or "encouraging." One lexicon used "repair" in its list. Also, what is "mysteries" that is spoken of in regards to praying in tongues? Thank you for any understanding that you may be able to provide me with.
I wanna see them days when dudes ain't hustlin' baking pies, throwing up gang signs, but got changed lives -- throwing up props to the Most High/We got bodies glorified, dressed in righteous acts - fresh kicks to match - new names, brims low rockin' fitted caps/We ain't chasing dough, nor hoes, pleasure in the presence of Yahuweh Tsidkenu

Godfrey,

Here is a link to Swalchy's translation of it http://www.thewaytoyahuw...1_corinthians#chapter14

I haven't looked at it, but perhaps a decent translation of it might help you.

Don't take my word for it, Look it up.

All I know is that the current gift of tongues as displayed in Pentecostal churches of today is blabbering. As far as what we know, or think, the gift of tongues is is the ability to speak a known earthly language, possibly without learning it, and the ability to translate languages, I think Swalchy could be a good example.

You might want to study the word apotheosis.

This happened to me.

I add to the usual definition and call it a rapprochement to God.
A getting closer to the one true archetypal or example of man.

A joke for you.

A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon a
restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal.
Feeling somewhat hungry, he sat down and looked over the
menu...

Tourist: $5.00
Broiled Missionary: $7.00
Fried Explorer: $9.00
Freshly Baked: Conservatives, Liberals, Parti Québécois, New
Democratic or Green Party: $10.00
Buddhist $ 9.00
Literalist or Fundamentalist: $ 150.00

The cannibal called the waiter over and asked,
'Why such a huge price difference for the Literalist or Fundamentalist: ?'

The cook replied,
Have you ever tried to clean one?....They're so full of shit, it
takes all morning.

Regards
DL
