I hope everyone made it out OK during this hurricane...
Here on the Eastern Shore of Virginia (DELMARVA), we got hit pretty hard with lots of flooding and wind damage. It didn't help that we had two days of rain before the hurricane even got here. Places like Chincoteague Island, Tangier Island, Cape Charles, Onancock, Saxis, Smith Beach, Silver Beach, Wachapreague, and other low laying areas saw major flooding.
Lots of trees and limbs down - power out everywhere - I only lost electricity for two hours on Monday afternoon though.
Points just north of us got hit alot worse than us. Ocean City MD, Rehobeth DE, Lewes DE, and Cape May NJ saw major storm damage and flooding.
Tuning into SHATTERING MYTHS on Monday, it was nice to hear that YADA was thinking about us!

^ Fortunate for you guys power wasn't taken out completely. In -83- we were without power for a month because of Hurricane Alicia. Makes one sure appreciate ac, especially in the heat of August. From the news reports millions will be without power for some time it appears. There are power crews from all over heading there now. Houstons own power crews left yesterday for the northeast to help restore outages. Best to you and yours, Vic.

Wow! without power for a month is serious! Yes, I've heard folks are pitching in from all over! Wish I had the cash for a generator as nor'easters, hurricanes, and ice storms happen around here from time to time and being so far out here near the water ("down the neck" as they say), electricity going off is a given

^ I was going to work, but the wife was 8 months along with our first back then. I felt sorry for her.
You must be a fisherman by trade to live out there, Vic. I like water, just not that much. Hoping it's staying up and running for ya. Best to you, but shoot, after looking on the map, you guys barely escaped all out havoc if my map skills are correct?

Thanks
We had some rain and tidal flooding with a few trees down too. Tangier Island, Saxis, Cape Charles, and other places got hit alot harder than us. My girlfriend lives on Chincoteague Island and they had it worse than us (45 mins north of me).
Not a fisherman by trade but yes, this is a little fishing village (going back in family history 4 or 5 generations here). Seasonal fishing, hunting, bird-watching, and boating are the main activities. Great place to live off the land/sea. |
