I have read White's book Fossilized Customs, it is a pretty good read, mostly sound research on the pagan origins of modern customs. I don't agree with some of his conclusions, but as a source for histroical information, he's not too bad, I prefer Come Out of Her My Peoplw by C.J. Koster, or Alexander Hislop's The Two Babylons. I have not read the book you cited, so I can't comment on it.

Some of his stuff is a little over the top, but worth taking a look at.
As with anything, verify any 'facts' before you go repeating them.
