Lets start a thread devoted to each of the 7 Mow'ed Miqra. Let's discuss their "why," "when," "where," and, "how" - namely:

1. Why - is this Miqra important? What does it communicate? How is its significance communicated through its symbolism?
2. When - is this Miqra to be celebrated/observed?
3. Where - in Scripture was this Miqra established?
4. How - is this Miqra to be observed/celebrated?

I think we should remember that many who are new to YY have never been exposed to the Miqra - so, in addition to furthering a discussion among those of us who have read YY - we should try to educate those who haven't. Lets view each of these threads as mini lessons - making the Miqra easy to understand so that we can bring more people to their Truth (and beauty).

The Why of the Mow'ed Miqra

The following was taken from: Book II : Called-Out Assemblies, Understanding the Basics, Chapter 2, Pecach Miqra, Passover Outcalling. (I have underlined a passage I think gives a nice summary and speaks directly to this question.)

To quote:

Quote:
"God/Elohiym said, ‘There shall be lights (ma'owr - luminaries) in the expanse of the heavens to divide (badal - separate and set apart) day from night. They shall exist as symbols and signs (‘owth) for the appointed symbolic meeting places and times (mow'ed), for days, and for years." (Genesis 1:14)

An ‘owth is: "a signal and a distinguishing maker." An ‘owth is: "a way to remember;" it is "a non-verbal representation which has meaning." It was used to convey something that was designed to be "a miraculous proof, a wondrous indication of something that would serve as an illustration, an example, or a metaphor which would in turn make something else more clearly known." An ‘owth is: "an accounting, record used to evaluate a ransom or reward."

A mow'ed denotes a: "designated period which relates to others for a specific purpose authorized by an authority." A mow'ed is "a set-apart feast and festival for the celebration of communion." Yahuweh's Miqra are Mow'ed.

Accurately and completely communicated, these two sentences convey the profound truth that the Miqra Mow'ed of Yahuweh are "wondrous signs that convey an important message" from our Creator. In fact, by coming to appreciate what the Mow'ed Miqra represent you will come to understand God, understand yourself, our relationship to Him and our purpose for being here. You will discover the means to salvation and the very framework of time itself from start to finish.

Failing to understand the Miqra Mow'ed, these appointed signs, clerics and laity alike fail to appreciate the connections between the covenants, and they have been deceived into believing that future prophetic events cannot be dated. We have become lost and blind, stumbling in the dark without a map. Steeped in religion, we are ignorant of the means provided to understand and date every significant event - past, present, and future.

If you are new to the Passover Sedar (like me), you might be interested in watching these 4 short videos. Although, they mistakenly use "Yeshua" instead of Yahshua, and Jesus Christ - they serve to give you a good, quick introduction to the progression and elements (and in Part 4, an explanation of the symbolism) of the meal itself.

Part 1 can be viewed here.

Part 2 can be viewed here.

Part 3 can be viewed here.

Part 4 can be viewed here.

Perhaps we can discuss what is right about the meal featured in the videos and what was in error.

I took the following quote from: Yada Yahweh, Book II : Called-Out Assemblies, Understanding the Basics, Chapter 2, Pecach Miqra, Passover Outcalling. The complete chapter can be found here.

(You will find specific suggestions for how you might share the Passover meal with your family underlined.)

To quote:

Quote:
Today, since the blood of the Perfect Sacrificial Lamb - Yahushua - has been shed so that we might live, we do not need to slaughter another lamb. But we do need to observe the Miqra and keep the appointment with Yahuweh. The date is not difficult to establish. Passover is marked on most every secular calendar as the 14th day following the new moon closest to the spring equinox.

On that day each year we should observe the Pesach symbolically. I recommend doing as much of what Scripture says as possible. Celebrate the Feast with your family, eating a meal of roasted lamb and unleavened bread, just as the first celebrants did. And while you and your family are reminiscing over our freedom from the bondage of sin, read about the first Passover in Exodus 12 and 13. Then qara/read the prophecies in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 that speak so vividly of what actually happened and why it occurred that way. Follow this by a review of the eyewitness accounts, the demonstration of His love and provision starting in Matthew 20-28, Mark 11-16, Luke 18-24, and/or John 11-21.

Strike Easter from your vocabulary and your calendar and follow Yahuweh's instructions and Yahushua's example. Keep the qodesh/set apart appointment with God and celebrate the Miqra of Passover each year.

That is how we did it this year. Kept it very simple. I will look a those video and see if we can improve it for next year...Thanks Yada

I was interested in looking at Yahushua's observance of the appointed times so I perused the 4 New Covenant accounts of his life and John was the only one who mentioned mutliple Festivals where Yahushua was in Yarushalem at the Set Apart Place. The other 3 writings only covered the last Passover other than Luke covering how he would go up to Passover every year as a child.

John 2 - Passover - He drove out money changers
John 5 - Festival? - Healed man at pool on the Sabbath
John 6 - Passover (is near) - Lake Kinnereth - Fed the 5,000 [Not Yarushalem]
John 7 - Festival of Booths - Teaching
John 13 - Passover - Last One

It seems signifcant to me that under the obvious threats and warnings about going up to Yarushalem, Yahushua would show up for these appointments regardless of the threats and potential he could be nabbed before his appointed time.

It's so wacky to think that Jews have been keeping these appointments all along even though they deny the Messiah while Christians have the Messiah but have ignored the Appointments. What a mess!

rs, you got me thinking about something. Your reference to John 6---tying the feed of the 5000 to the Passover "season." What was in the back of everybody's mind as they came to listen to Yahshua near their homes in the district of Galilee? They were thinking, In a few days (or weeks---we aren't told), we're all going to celebrate Passover, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and The Feast of Firstfruits. That means we're going to have to go through the house and remove all the leaven, and then pack up the family and go up to Jerusalem for the big party. They were thinking about bread, mulling over the symbolic task at hand, perhaps asking themselves why Yahweh had required such a strange thing of them every year---getting rid of all the yeast. The whole story fairly screams that Yahshua was addressing their unspoken thoughts: "Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.... This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.... My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.... I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." And where would He "give the bread of His flesh?" In Jerusalem---the very place Yahweh had instructed them to go to celebrate the Miqrym.

I never saw the connection before. Thanks, rs.

If you are interested in doing some supplemental reading about Passover, you might like to take a look at this short .PDF booklet. You can download it here. (Note: the writers mistakenly use the terms - Jesus, Lord, Christ, etc.)

This booklet might be good for introducing others to the concept of the Miqra - this one deals with Passover. You can find others dealing with the Sabbath, Unleavened Bread, etc. here.

The chapter in YY entitled, Pecach Miqra can be found here.
