Quote: Atheist soldier sues Army for 'unconstitutional' discrimination Story Highlights * Army Spc. Jeremy Hall was raised Baptist but is now an atheist * His sudden lack of faith cost him his military career and put his life at risk, he says * Hall sued the Defense Department; claims military is a Christian organization * Pentagon official: Complaints about evangelizing are "relatively rare" KANSAS CITY, Kansas (CNN) -- Army Spc. Jeremy Hall was raised Baptist. Like many Christians, he said grace before dinner and read the Bible before bed. Four years ago when he was deployed to Iraq, he packed his Bible so he would feel closer to God. He served two tours of duty in Iraq and has a near perfect record. But somewhere between the tours, something changed. Hall, now 23, said he no longer believes in God, fate, luck or anything supernatural. Hall said he met some atheists who suggested he read the Bible again. After doing so, he said he had so many unanswered questions that he decided to become an atheist. I thought it was illeagal for a soldier to sue the military, at least while they were on active duty, and especially at a time of war.
This really sounds like they are just using Christianity as a tool to get what they want. I may not have been in Iraq, but I was in the military and their claims sound absolutly absurd to me. In fact, I would say a majority of the people I knew were atheist, but religion never came into play. Even the chaplains talked a watered down/unity type of talk.
Besides a few of the claims, they generally sound like complaints against what people do out of uniform. It would seem that in uniform there is not much evangelizing.
