Can anyone explain this a bit more simply?

John Gill and Matthew Henry say it has to do with Jerusalem being
deserted. I don't get all the metaphors. Especially the cucumbers.
Ideas anyone?

Cucumbers are only used 2 more times as I can find.

Never heard of wild cucumbers, but they are called gourds in KJV
poisonous, so what do they represent? Can't be good whatever
it is. But what?
Not all gourds are poison, including cucumbers

There are two other possible renderings of Mem Qoph Shin Hey neither of which shed any light on the meaning.
One is a metal object formed through hammering, and the other is a hairdo.
The term is used again in Jeremiah 10:5 where Yahowah speaking of christmas trees says that they are like a scarecrow in the cucumber fields in that they do not speak or move.
I think it is likely a colloquialism in the context I would infer that being left like a hut in a field of cucumbers or tent in a vineyard or a besieged city are all ways of saying that they are up creek without a paddle. |

Thankx James. Eating gourds from the proverbial creek would make one sick.
Not sure bread would help.
Sometimes it is hard to sort out all the different definitions. Especially those
you can't find or don't have.
