Can anyone explain this a bit more simply?

(Isa 1:8 [KJV+TVM (ES)])
And the daughter H1323 of Zion H6726 is left H3498[ H8738] as a cottage H5521 in a vineyard H3754, as a lodge H4412 in a garden of cucumbers H4750, as a besieged H5341[ H8803] city H5892.

(Isa 1:8 [TS98])
And the daughter of Tsiyon is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a hut in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

Mickelson-- 1. (literally) a cucumbered field, i.e. a cucumber patch
[denominative from H7180]

Brown, Driver, Briggs, Thayer, Strong-- 1. place or field of
cucumbers
Origin: denominative from H7180

TWOT---Derivative TWOT Number: 2083a
Derivative Transliteration: qishshu'a
Derivative Strong's Cross Reference: 7180
Derivative Definition: cucumber Num 11:5.

John Trapp
Isaiah 1:8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

Ver. 8. And the daughter of Zion.] Jerusalem, which is called the daughter of Zion, say some, because standing at the foot of that hill as a daughter; it comes out from between the feet, being also cherished and tendered by God as his daughter. Howbeit, as dear as she was to him, she fell into deep distress when she became undutiful. Abused mercy turneth into fury.

Is left as a cottage in a vineyard.] As a shed or booth, whereof after the vintage there is little use or regard.

As a lodge in a garden of cucumbers.] Or, Melons, which, when ripe, lie on the ground. So, saith one, do God’s ripest and best servants, being humble, and meanly conceited of themselves.

As a besieged city.] Besieged, though at a distance; as Rome was at the time when Saguntum was beleagured.

John Gill and Matthew Henry say it has to do with Jerusalem being
deserted. I don't get all the metaphors. Especially the cucumbers.

Ideas anyone?

Cucumbers are only used 2 more times as I can find.

Numbers 11:5 (TS98)
“We remember the fish which we ate without cost in Mitsrayim, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic,

2 Kings 4:39 (TS98)
And one went out to the field to gather plants, and found a wild vine, and gathered wild cucumbers from it, filling the skirt of his garment, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were.

Never heard of wild cucumbers, but they are called gourds in KJV
poisonous, so what do they represent? Can't be good whatever
it is. But what?
Not all gourds are poison, including cucumbers

There are two other possible renderings of Mem Qoph Shin Hey neither of which shed any light on the meaning.

One is a metal object formed through hammering, and the other is a hairdo.

The term is used again in Jeremiah 10:5 where Yahowah speaking of christmas trees says that they are like a scarecrow in the cucumber fields in that they do not speak or move.

I think it is likely a colloquialism in the context I would infer that being left like a hut in a field of cucumbers or tent in a vineyard or a besieged city are all ways of saying that they are up creek without a paddle.
Don't take my word for it, Look it up.

Thankx James. Eating gourds from the proverbial creek would make one sick.
Not sure bread would help.
Sometimes it is hard to sort out all the different definitions. Especially those
you can't find or don't have.

Thankx again
