I was looking through my copy of the NIV translation, it is an archeological study version, some of the historical stuff added to it is interesting, when I flipped to Genesis 1 and noticed that in the margin notes that are included, it actually points out that the Hebrew word Yom has many meanings, not all of which are simply a 24 hour day. I don't know if this is unique to the Archeological version, or if it is in other NIV translations, but I'm anxious to show this to some of my friends and family who seem to be of the opinion that if it's not in their bible then it doesn't matter.

Just thought I would share.

I've used this one a bit and I like the notes more than the translations. given that it is meant to be an archeological study, it serves to reason that the notes would be geared more toward the historical side of things. the margin notes are okay, but I really like the scholarly articles that are included, about digs and such, as well as the history of the region.
